Free Survey Companies
D - J
I'd like to remind you that all of these links should be to free surveys. If they are not, please let me know. I tried to check them out before hand but I may have missed something. They are listed in alphabetical order and all links will pop up in a new window.
Codes: BBB = Better Business Bureau; AMA = American Marketing Association; ARF = Advertising Research Foundation; CASRO = Council of American Survey Research Organizations; MRA = Marketing Research Association.
Datatelligence Online
AKA: CSS/Dataintelligence
3 Signal Avenue, Suite B, Ormond Beach, FL 32137
(386) 677-5644
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB, but they are members of the MRA, AMA, and CASRO. According to their site, you may receive cash or earn "datapoints" which can be redeemed for "high tech electronics, movie tickets, air travel miles," and other items in their incentive catalog. Dataintelligence is a division of the Cunningham Research Group. Although the address is not clearly visible on the Dataintelligence site, it is on the Cunningham one and the two sites are clearly linked.
ECN Research Panel
No address listed.
No phone number listed.
Comments: This is another "sponsored site." It is sponsored by Iron Traffic, Inc., and then gives a Post Office box for its address. It says that if you sign up you will "receive offers, coupons, discounts and giveaways targeted to your specific needs based on how you answer our survey." In other words: SPAM! Neither it, nor its sponsor, were listed in the BBB. Nor are they members of the AMA, MRA, ARF, or CASRO. Although this site is more professionally done than other potential scams I've seen, I would strongly urge caution before signing up.
The Edge Strategeze
7 Community Circle, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M2R 1W4
(416) 222-4454
Comments: I could not find them listed in the Canadian BBB and are not members of the AMA, MRA, ARF, or CASRO. Their address is clearly listed and site seems professional, but they make no mention of compensation for taking their surveys.
eDigitalResearch
AKA: eglobalpanel, eMysteryShopper, eCustomerOpinions, and ePollingStation
1 Berrywood Business Village, Hedge End, Hampshire, England SO30 2UN
+44 (0) 1489 772923
Comments: They are not members of MRA, ARF, CASRO or AMA. They have a nice website with the address and phone numbers clearly listed. Compensation for their surveys takes the form of entry into drawings.
E Jury
3609-B W Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, TX 76013
(817)277-2735 or (800) 590-3542 Comments: They are not members but have a satisfactory record with the BBB. If you like Law & Order, you would probably enjoy these surveys. Basically, you are submitted with a bunch of facts and information about a trial, giving the attorneys information about how a jury might react before actually going to trial. It sounds like a lot of work and payment is only $5-$10 dollars for each case.
Encuesta
4990 SW 72nd Ave Ste 110, Miami, FL 33155
(305) 661-1492
Comments: They are not members but have a satisfactory record with the BBB. However, they are not members of the AMA, CASRO, ARF, or MRA. They only list a P.O. Box on their site and do not list their phone number. They state that the specialize in the "Hispanic market" and that "when you submit the completed survey you will automatically receive by mail the incentive promised (typically $3.00 to $5.00 per survey or a gift)."
E-poll
16133 Ventura Blvd., Suite 905, Encino, CA 91436
(818) 995-4960
Comments: Their address was a little difficult to find (had to look on the business section of the site). However, they have been a member of the Better Business Bureau since March 2000. They are also members of the AMA, CASRO, ARF, and MRA. They offer compensation in the form of points that can be cashed in for gift cards or donated to charity. Overall, a very nice and professional looking site.
Esearch.com
32 S Middleridge, Rolling Hills CA 90274
(310) 265.4608
Comments: They have been a member of the Better Business Bureau since October 2003. They are also members of the AMA. Their site is very professional with contact information easy to find. They state that "completing most surveys will automatically enter you into a drawing for special prizes (usually cash), and in some instances, all participants are rewarded with an honorarium. Details about prizes and honorariums are included in survey notifications."
Esurvey.net
140 Route 17 North, Paramus, NJ 07652
(201) 262-8500
Comments: Esurvey.net is part of Database Sciences. I could not find any listing for them in the BBB and they are not members of CASRO, MRA, ARF, or AMA. Their address is sort of hidden at the bottom of their privacy statement and their phone number could only be found on the Database site. They do state that "To encourage participation in research studies, they usually offer an opportunity to win cash, gift certificates or prizes in a drawing." Not sure if when they say "research studies" they really mean "surveys." Probably not.
E-Rewards
1601 Elm Street, Suite 3838, Dallas, TX 75201
(214) 220-2000
Comments: This company is a member of the BBB, CASRO, MRA and AMA. They have a professional-looking site but they hide their address at the bottom of their privacy policy and don't list a phone number. According to them, "you'll earn e-Rewards currency each time you respond to e-mail from e-Rewards and participate in surveys that are prescreened to match your interests." You can redeem your e-Rewards currency for airline miles, video rentals and other stuff (in other words: gift cards).
Eyecloud Consulting
Hamilton Grange Station, PO Box 433, New York, NY 10031
No Phone Number listed
Comments: First, this site displayed Google ads. Why does this bother me? Because legitimate businesses do not need to display Google ads on their site (I'm not a business, remember? That's why I display them.) They also had links to companies like Survey Platinum and Survey Scout--companies that charge a fee for lists of survey companies. They were not listed in the BBB and are not members of the MRA, CASRO, ARF or AMA. I would advise staying away from this "company."
Focusline.com
No address listed
No phone number listed
Comments: I joined this company about a month ago and have never been sent one survey. (Before I started researching survey companies--I wish now I hadn't joined.) Although they say they pay between $25 to $45 for your participation in our studies they also state that it can take up to 8 weeks after the close of a research study to receive your payment. There was no listing of them with the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, ARF, or CASRO. I would advise caution when dealing with them.
Focus on Boston
30 Rowes Wharf, Boston, MA 02110
(617) 946-0755
They are not members but have a satisfactory record with the BBB but are not members of the AMA, CASRO, ARF or MRA. They only accept Boston area consumers and state that participants can receive "anywhere from $50 to $150 for sharing their opinions."
Focus World Market Research
146 State Highway 34, Suite 100, Holmdel, NJ 07733
(732) 946-0100
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and are not members of the AMA, MRA, ARF, or CASRO. Their site seems very amateurish (most businesses don't use animated gifs) but they do clearly list their contact information. They don't give specifics, but they do state that you can "earn cash now" by taking their surveys.
Food Quiz
No addresss listed
No phone number listed
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and are not members of the AMA, MRA, ARF, or CASRO. They state that "for each survey, we will conduct a drawing from among all people who answer that particular survey." The site appears very professional, but the lack of information or any professional affiliations makes me nervous.
Global Survey Group
AKA: Adfish
1450 Veterans Blvd. Suite 100, Redwood City, CA 94063
(650) 364-3110
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and are not members of the AMA, MRA, ARF, or CASRO. They state that for each survey you fill out you will "be entered for a chance to win One Grand Prize for the amount of $50,000 which may be used to purchase the car of your dreams. The prize will be awarded on or about January 20, 2007." I don't know why they mention the car bit, but I have the feeling that it's actually a $50,000 gift certificate at an auto dealership. I feel this would be a lot of work and time spent for a long shot.
GlobalTestMarket
2835 82nd Ave SE, Ste S100, Mercer Island, WA 98040
No phone number listed.
Comments: They have been a member of the Better Business Bureau since August 2004. However, they are not members of the AMA, MRA, ARF, or CASRO. You earn "Market Points," redeemable for cash, for every survey you take. In the first month of joining this company, I received about 6-10 surveys. Every one of them was "closed" by the time I clicked on the email--even though it was only a few hours after receiving it. Their address is not on site and no phone number was listed. They do have an affiliate program, but I am not a member of it.
Gongos & Associates
6001 N. Adams Road #250, Bloomfield, MI 48304
(248) 205-9500
Comments: They are not members but have a satisfactory record with the BBB and they are members of CASRO and the MRA. They state that surveys "some surveys offer payment; sometimes a sweepstakes or other prize is offered." The website is very professional and the contact information is clearly visible.
Grace Market Research
No address listed.
No phone number listed.
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, ARF, or CASRO. This is another poorly done site with no contact information available. They state that "if a survey is commissioned by a client, we offer cash or merchandise prizes to survey respondents. This is usually on the order of 10 to 20 prizes of $25 each. Surveys for company research and development purposes, or to supply information to our panelists, generally don't include prizes." Probably not worth the time to participate with this company.
Greenfield Onlineblank
AKA: Opinion Surveys and Survey Center.
21 River Road, Suite 2000, Wilton, CT 06897-4065
(203) 834-8585
Comments: They are members of the BBB, and also members of CASRO, MRA, AMA. and AMA. They offer "surveys which offer the chance to win cash and prizes in sweepstakes" and claim that some "offer guaranteed incentives" but in a month and over two dozen surveys I have yet to see one. Most times money is paid for surveys that have a very limited demographics (like males 19-24 living in Los Angeles). Often surveys are already closed and you're sent to another survey. These surveys tend to be long with no mention of what the compensation will be--although I've learned it always seems to be a sweepstakes entry. I am an affiliate with Greenfield through Commission Junction. Here is the direct link: Greenfield Online
Gulf Surveys.com
P.O. Box 32394, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
No phone number listed.
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, ARF, or CASRO. The site seemed very amateur and the address is a post office box in the United Arab Emirates. They claim that "every time you participate, you stand a chance to win a cash reward, a gift or a gift voucher" but I doubt it is really worth it. My advice is to stay away from them.
Hagen Sinclair
1042 Michigan Drive, Suite 1, Santa Rosa, CA 95405
(707) 544-5015 or (800) 484-0947
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, ARF, or CASRO. They claim that "incentives range from $45 - $250 depending on the format and level of expertise required." They have a very professional looking site and their contact information was easy to find.
Harris Poll Online
AKA: Harris Interactive
135 Corporate Woods, Rochester, NY 14623-1457 USA
(800) 600-2493 or (585) 482-2210 Ext. 8003
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB but they are not members of the AMA, MRA, ARF, and CASRO. According to them, they "offer the opportunity to earn HIPoints for the majority of our studies. On occasion a study will be conducted that will not have HIPoints associated with it, but this only occurs in exceptions. Once you've accumulated enough points you may redeem them for your choice of a variety of great rewards." Their contact information was listed, but hidden away at the bottom of the legal stuff.
Home Business Connection
AKA: Cutting Edge Media, Inc. CEM Prospects, Cutting Edge Opportunities National Biz Opp Media Group, Inc., and Network Marketing Connection
1595 S. Mount Joy Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022
(717) 361-9007
Comments: This company has been a member of this Better Business Bureau since April 1996 but are not members of the MRA, CASRO, ARF or AMA. In actuality, it is a advertising directory. The only "paid surveys" that are listed there are ones from companies that paid them to be listed. They might be legitimate, but I would not waste my time looking.
Inbox Dollars
Comments: This is not really a survey company. You "earn" money by joining survey companies and signing up for "offers." For more information, please check out my page on survey lookalikes.
Insight Express
1351 Washington Boulevard, Stamford, CT 06902
(203) 359-4174
Comments: They have been a member of the Better Business Bureau since January 2003. They are also members of CASRO, ARF, MRA, and AMA. One minor issue with their site. Although I could find a link to a survey and a link to their main site, I could find no links to join any panel or any mention of compensation for taking their surveys.
Inside Heads
No address listed.
(877) 464-3237
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or ARF. They state that "you can also win money for participating in surveys, or receive a monetary incentive for participating in online focus groups." It appears to be a very professional looking site, but the lack of an address and any professional affiliations make me nervous.
Internet Survey Center IOpinion
No address listed
No phone number listed
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and are not members of the AMA, MRA, ARF, or CASRO. They state that they "conduct drawings among those completing each survey and award cash prizes." The site isn't professionaly done and there is absolutely no information given--not even the usual disclaimer stuff. I would avoid this one.
i.think inc.
2811 McKinney Avenue, Suite 350 LB 112, Dallas, Texas 75204
(214) 855-3777
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB but they are members of the MRA. They state that "each respondent who takes the time to thoughtfully answer a complete survey is rewarded. And that the incentives are "appropriate to what they are asked to do. Sometimes this is entry into a cash drawing often this is an individual check." The site is professional looking and their contact information is clearly listed.
Ipsos i-Say Online Panel
AKA: American Shoppers Panel, Home Testing Institute
100 Charles Lindbergh Blvd., Uniondale, NY 11553
(866) 893-1188
As of 8/30/2006, they had an unsatisfactory record with the BBB under the name IPSOS-NPD. However, they are members of the AMA, MRA, ARF, and CASRO. There site is very professional and contact information clearly listed. They state that "most of our surveys offer chances to win cash by participating. The odds of winning are terrific, since we select only the number of participants we need for each survey. Occasionally, we have paid surveys, which require a bit more of your time to complete. We have offered up to $150 cash per survey." Use your best judgment when dealing with this company. They do not say in advance how much you'll earn for taking the survey.
Jewelry Consumer Opinion Council
PO Box 240, Clear Lake, MN 55319
No phone number listed
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and are not members of the AMA, MRA, ARF, or CASRO. Although they had a nice site, the address was hard to find. This is another "sponsored site" this time by MVI Marketing LTD. 625 14th St. Paso, Robles, California 93446. All rewards are sweepstakes entrances to win jewelry.
JD Power Panel
2625 Townsgate Road, Westlake Village, CA 91361
(888) 537-6937
Comments: This company is part of McGraw Hill and they are members of CASRO, MRA and ARF. They have been a member of the Better Business Bureau since May 2005. They state that "panel members will receive JDPowerPoints each time they complete a survey as a "thank you." These points will be accumulated in an online account. For every 500 JDPowerPoints Panel members accumulate, they can redeem for a $5.00 Amazon.com® Gift Certificate. The specific number of points given for each survey will vary." Their site was okay but their address was hidden away at the bottom of the legal stuff and their phone number was only obtainable through the BBB.
J Reckner Associates
587 Bethlehem Pike, Suite 800, Montgomeryville, PA 18936
(800) 800.355-3395
Comments: They have been a member of the Better Business Bureau since March 2003. They are also members of CASRO and MRA. They state that "For each survey that you qualify for and complete, you will receive a cash honorarium . . . The amount varies from survey to survey." One thing to note, the checks are not mailed until four to six weeks after the research is completed. This means it could be three to four months before you get paid. Overall, this is a very professional site with contact information clearly listed.

(704) 587-0028
Comments: They state they will pay $50-150 per focus group. They have been members of the Better Business Bureau since November 1998 with a satisfactory record. Their website is proffesional, address and information is clearly displayed and everything is upfront. They are also members of the AMA and MRA.

They are not members of the BBB and have not responded to the BBB request for more information about their company.

American Consumer Opinion
AKA: Decision Analyst, Inc.
604 Avenue H East, Arlington, TX 76011
(800) 262-5974
Comments: They have been a member of BBB since May 2004. Contact information is clearly listed on their site. According to them, "if you participate in a survey you will always receive some type of incentive (a free product to test, cash, a check, or a gift). Incentives typically range in value from $4 to $50, per survey or focus group, depending upon the length of the questionnaire and the time it takes to complete it. . . . Participants in online focus groups generally receive more than $25." I am an affiliate of them, so here is the direct link: American Consumer Opinion
Ask Miami
2121 Ponce De Leon Blvd, Suite #230, Coral Gables, FL 33134
(305) 448-7769
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB, but they are members of the AMA and MRA. They state that they will never try to sell you anything and that you will always be paid for your time. No mention of amounts. I am not positive, but it does not seem like you must live in the Miami area to be listed in their database.
Ask Southern California
12437 Lewis Street, Suite 100, Garden Grove, CA 92840
(714) 750-7566
Comments: They are not members but have a satisfactory record with the BBB and they are members of the AMA. They only accept possible participants from the Southern California area only. Others need not apply.

Begin Survey Company
34 Sunset Drive, Suite B-2, Clementon, NJ 08021
(888) 601-8673 ext. 201
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB, nor are they members of the MRA or AMA that I could find. Contact information is clearly listed on their site and, while they make claims of paying you for surveys, they do not mention amount. The website as a whole does not seem professional and I would urge caution when dealing with them.
BellWeather Surveys
Box 7757, Greenwich, CT 06830
No phone number listed
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or CASRO. They claim that you have the chance to win cash and prizes as well as earn money for your time. However, their lack of a street address, phone number and any professional affiliations make me cautious about giving my personal information to them.
Bernett Research Services
World Trade Center East, Two Seaport Lane, Boston, MA 02210
(617) 737-4500
Comments: They are not members but have a satisfactory record with the BBB and they are members of the AMA and CASRO. There phone number and address is different with the BBB than what is listed on their website. They only do focus groups in the Boston area and there is no mention of compensation.
Beta Research Panel
6400 Jericho Turnpike, Syosset, NY 11791
(516) 935-3800
Comments: They are members of the BBB under the name Beta Research Corp and the MRA lists their website as being http://www.NYBeta.com. They state that every time you fill you fill out a survey you'll also receive a special "thank you" gift but do not mention what the gift will be (probably a sweepstakes entrance).
Blarry House Research
580 Douglass Street, San Francisco, CA 94114-2759
(415) 648-2196
Comments: They do teleconferences and focus groups but not online surveys. They are could not be found in the BBB and they are not members of AMA, CASRO, MRA or ARF. They do clearly list their contact information. They state that "participants are generally paid between $40 and $150" and "a typical focus group lasts no longer than two hours." Either way, "you will be told in advance what to expect in terms of time, commitment and compensation when you are invited to join the session."

4940 Pearl East Circle, Suite 103, Boulder, Colorado 80301
(303) 449-6558 ext. 123
Comments: They have a nice website with contact information clearly listed. I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA. They do seem to allow panelist from outside boulder area but don't mention anything about compensation.
Brand Institute
200 S.E. 1 Street, 12th Floor, Miami, FL 33131
(305) 374-2500
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB, but have no complaints listed with them. They are not members of the AMA, MRA or CASRO. I did decide to join up and they immediately asked me if I wanted to pay with paypal (optional) and asked for the email address associated with it. They also asked me for my social security number stating that "Please note that federal law requires us to collect Social Security numbers from all participants with mailing addresses in the United States prior to payment for surveys. Due to privacy concerns, we do not ask for this information until you complete a survey for Brand Institute." I had yet to even receive an offer for a survey and yet they were asking for it. Also, I have received emails from them asking me to refer my friends (although there is not an affiliate program). I don't SPAM my friends! Also, the government only requires this if payment exceeds $600. I did not give it to them and am in the midst of contacting them as to why they are doing this (and no other survey company has). However, they did have a very professional looking website with lots of contact information visible.
Business Research Lab
8558 Katy Freeway, Suite 101,Houston, TX 77024
(866) 960-9824 or (713) 467-6619
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the CASRO or MRA. They state they offer incentives for survey participation but often the incentive is a drawing where they randomly give away prizes to survey participants. It is a professional looking site with lots of contact information visible.
BuzzBack
6 East 39th Street, 8th Floor, New York, NY 10016
(646) 519-8010 or (800) 481-0878
Comments: They are not members but have a satisfactory record with the BBB and they are members of AMA, ESOMAR, CASRO, and ARF. They state that they provide sweepstakes, gift certificates and cash for studies with additional compensation if you are invited back to a more in-depth session. Contact information is easily found on their professional looking website.
Buzz Sponge
222 W. Huron, Suite 4001, Chicago, IL 60610
(312) 664-4433
Comments: They claim that they will reward you as "often as [they] can." In other words, not every time. They also state that it will either be an entry into a quarterly sweepstakes or "BuzzSponge Points" which can be redeemed for Amazon gift certificates. I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA or CASRO. Also, their contact information was listed buried at the bottom of their terms and conditions rather than being readily listed on their site.
C & C Market
1200 South Waldron Rd. #138, Fort Smith, AR 72903
(479) 785-5637
Comments: C & C Market Research has nationwide coverage with 26 mall locations and 8 focus facilities. Only two of this company's locations were listed in the BBB, neither had sufficient information for the BBB to give a recommendation. They are members of the AMA and MRA. They state that they conduct surveys and focus groups on a host of goods and services but do not mention compensation. Contact information was easily found.
C & R Research
500 N. Michigan Avenue, Suite 1331, Chicago, IL 60611
(312) 828-9200
They have been a member of the Better Business Bureau since March 2006. They are also members of AMA. They have three specific survey groups:
* Kidzeyes: an online panel of U.S. kids ages 6 to 12,
* Teenseyes: an online panel for 13 to 17 year olds, and
* Latinoeyes: an online panel for adult Latinos residing in the United States.
Both the Kidzeyes and Teeneyes sites rewarded surveys by giving points that could be redeemed for money once they had achieved 1000 points ($10). I am not sure how the Latinoeyes program worked because the page was all in Spanish. Kids must have parents permission to join.

(608) 246-3010
Comments: They have been a member of the Better Business Bureau since October 1995. They are also members of the AMA and MRA. They state that you will typically receive between $20 to $50 for each study you participate in.

Comments: They claim that "after most of their surveys you will have an opportunity to enter one of [their] many sweepstakes for a chance to win cash" and that "some surveys offer outright cash and/or merchandise incentives." I was not impressed by their all caps or multiple exclamation marks. Also, I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or CASRO. There was no address or contact information on their site. Also, their site seemed very amateur. I know, you're saying who am I to judge? Well, I'm not a business and I'm not asking for your personal information, am I? One final note, they should not be confused with another Consumer Opinions, which is located in St. Louis, MO, and does not offer online surveys. They did list an address for a "sponsor" but no phone number was given.

(973) 263-1409
Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB and they are not members of the AMA, MRA, or CASRO. Again, the website had an amateur feel to it although the contact information was clearly listed. They state that when you are invited to complete a questionnaire, you will be told what the "token payment or gift will be" and that "typically, participants will receive a check for $5 or perhaps coupons worth $5 or more on the client's products. In some situations, participants may receive larger payments." I have the suspicious that the payments lay on the side of coupons versus cash, but have had no direct dealings with them.

Comments: I could not find them listed in the BBB, but they are members of the AMA and MRA. They state that they will never try to sell you anything and that you will always be paid for your time. No mention of amounts. I am not positive, but it does not seem like you must live in the Miami area to be listed in their database.
